: The block (B) which can translate only in the x-direction is fixed to the
beam CF at the end C and is acted upon by a point force Po in the negative x-direction as show in
the Fig. 1 1.2(a). In effect, beam CF is fixed at both ends but can be compressed or elongated in
the x-direction. A point load Po also acts along y-direction as shown in Fig 11.2(a).

a) Indicate whether the beam is statically determinate or indeterminate.
b) Determine the reactions at both ends using second-order integration method.
c) Determine the states of stress at points M and N at cross-section AA’, as shown in Fig.
d) Draw the states of stress at points M and N using the stress elements in Fig. 11.2(c).
Write your answers in terms of Po and L.
